YES THEATRE ORCHESTRA
This December, YES will launch the YES Theatre Orchestra. A new subdivision of the company where we will present musical theatre pieces that feature lush, full scores with an orchestra of 20-35 musicians. Each December we will present family friendly musical selections in concert. This initiative will ensure that these musicals are heard the way they were intended to be heard – with full orchestration; offering our patrons a very intimate experience with the music.
Our first YES Theatre Orchestra piece will be Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. December 6th-9th at Glad Tidings Church; featuring a score by oscar winning composer Alan Menken.
We are certain this new branch of the company will become a celebrated community holiday tradition. Tickets will go on sale in early July.
FROM THE GROUND UP
From the Ground Up is a new initiative that will see the development of an original musical created to debut at YES Theatre’s 10 year anniversary in 2019. This project will undergo
development over the next two years. It will bring together numerous local youth and artists
with the intention of depicting what it is to be a young person in Northern Ontario. There is a
renaissance taking place in the Canadian Musical Theatre scene and we believe that, being in
Northern Ontario, we have a responsibility to ensure that our stories, and our voice, are
represented on the national stage. From the Ground Up will mark YES Theatre’s first original
Beauty & The Beast: In Concert
A YES Orchestra Production
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is an international sensation that has played to over 35 million people worldwide in 13 countries. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
